God's Army
i watched a channel four documnetary the other day called God's Army. It was about a college in America that trained Christians in politics and law, hoping they will be part of the White House leading the country. Thier philosophy is 'we are called to be salt and light in the world and where better to be than the head of the country.' George Bush is thier icon, and a great example of Christians in politics.
the way the programme was portrayed was as a cult. A strange bunch of inbred, homeschooled people who want to run the most powerful country in the world! OMG what has the world come to. Chritianity did not come off in a positive light at all!
From a christian perspective, it was strange. i shuffuled uncomfortably in my seat as i heard people saying that the feel god calling them to the white house to be witnesses for Christ. I was shocked to hear that people were actually willing to train people in how to be a christian and a politician at the same time.
but why?
surely this is what i hear people say everyday. Everyone feels that they have a calling, or are persuing that calling, or how to be a christian in whatever situation you find yourself in, what makes this any different?
well the documnetary made you think that these were strange people who are living in thier own world, wanting to force thier views of the world onto to other people, through govenment.
I'm still trying to decide what i thought of the whole thing. part of me thinks it was ok, and that christains should take an interest in politics and world affairs and be effected by them, and wanting to make a difference. but the other side of me screams NNOOO!!! you weirdo christians!! what are you dong?! you can not use the word of god and twist it to say what every you mean. Your playing with fire, and what a dreadful thing it is to fall into the hands of the almighty!
current mood: arrggghhh!!
